What is a Podcast?

A podcast is a little bit like a radio show that you can listen to whenever you like. Like a radio show, podcasts typically have lots of episodes and (like this one) they are free to listen to. But instead of being on the radio, podcasts are on the internet.

There are a couple of different ways that you can listen to a podcast…

The most popular way to listen is to subscribe to the podcast. This is like saving the podcast as a favorite that you can return to easily. And usually it also means that new episodes will be downloaded automatically for you.

For Apple, iPhone and iPad users

If you have an iPhone or iPad, just tap this icon and then tap the Subscribe button:

If you are using a laptop or desktop computer, click the icon and then on the View in iTunes link on the page that opens. When iTunes opens, click Subscribe there.

That’s all there is to it. Now you can tap the play button next to any episode, or the download icon to save the episode to your device for later.

For Android and Windows users

If you have an Android or Windows phone or tablet, you can search for Crowd Scene in much the same way on podcast apps like Pocket Casts and Player FM. You may have to click a plus sign (+) to search for Crowd Scene.

Alternatively you can just click the play button when you see a podcast on a website (like the one in the big pink section at the top of our homepage). This is called streaming. It works fine so long as you keep the browser window open.
